Shadowfell

The Shadowfell trilogy, starts with a 16 year old orphan girl Neryn, travelling to a place of safety (Shadowfell), for, the evil king Keldec, has murdered her family and is now after Neryn. Neryn is different, she has a gift, but she doesn't know what it is nor how to use it. While she's on the run, she sees the kings assassins kill villagers: children, women, men, for no reason at all, the assassins are after Neryn...but why??? She meets the Good Folk, the magic people that live in the woods, the magic people that help her on this quest. But ....the day comes, one of the king's assassins (Flint), finds Neryn and takes her away. Those assassins are called Enforcers, meaning: they go into people's minds and enslave them. Neryn is lost, what now??? She is trapped.... but Flint is a double agent, he too wants the king dead, he also is the chief of the  rebels and helps Neryn to reach Shadowfell.
This is a very good tale, and very well told, the story itself is poor, boring, and has no action except at the end, when they fight and Neryn shows a little magic. This is no doubt a book for children or for girls, once again Marillier fills the pages with feelings, feelings and more feelings, at some point this is quite BORING, there's no action, and no historic background. Nevertheless, she is the Master of story telling, and no one 'beats' her at that. She manages to tell a great story when the main story is poor......
